Carnival in Cologne

Tomorrow is a BIG day here in Cologne.

The  start the Carnival season. Carnival, or Karneval in German, is known as a “5th season” here in Cologne. It officially begins each year on 11/11 at 11:11am. So can you imagine what it will be like here tomorrow seeing how its 11/11/11??

The first year I moved here I was in the subway around 10:30am on 11/11. Having no clue what the day meant I couldn’t understand why everyone was getting on the train dressed up like it was  Halloween. Actually, nearly everyone was coming in the train  dressed as a clown! I had to call my husband and ask him what the heck was going on!

If I were crazy, I would go into the city center tomorrow with my camera and take some pictures for you because if you’re not from here, you cannot imagine what its like!  But sorry….I’m a little too sane for that.

Watch this video …you’ll see what I’m talking about! And you thought Germany was just lederhosen and big pretzels, huh??

Kölle Alaaf!
