While my fellow sew-alongers over at A Little Gray ( is it gray or grey??) are making the backpack from Oliver + S ‘s book, Little Things to Sew ( isn’t it adorable??)
I’ve decided that we have enough backpacks in our house at the moment and opted to make the messenger bag in this month’s Sew-Along. If you read my blog, you might see that last month we sewed a bucket hat which is so cute!
When my daughter came home from Kindergarden, she was so pleased with her new bag she had to put it on right away without pausing to put her cookie down!
I couldn’t, unfortunately, find metal adjustors at the store I was at, so I bought plastic since it was faster and easier than waiting for a delivery before getting started.
There are also two different pattern sizes of this bag, small and large. I opted for small which was a great choice for my 5 1/2 year old. The directions were extremely easy to follow.
Here’s the inside.
In the above picture you can see my seams didn’t line up…oh the horror!
I have a chance to redeem myself.
Two daughters= Mommy making two bags!
Isn’t this bias tape going to look cute with the solid yellow?? Finally bought me a tape maker!!

The bag is so adorable.
I LOVE IT!! you did a great job, and I love your fabric choices for the next one. so sweet!
Oh how cute! I love the bag and the yellow one later looks great! Perhaps I’ll make that for my niece for Christmas. I’ll have to ask her mom if she has to many bags or not. It’d be cute in the Appleville though huh?
i love the pink gingham. Well done. Looks like a perfect size for your little girl for all her treasures.
Can you send me the high res photo of your pieces cut out? I rented this book from the library and somebody stole pattern 2 and 4. I’m really angry.
